Social media over the past few years has exploded with overnight gurus. People who get on social media and share advice about all types of topics. It is usually harmless until it becomes advice around money. There are people on social media sharing advice that if you do what they say you are going to end up in federal prison. So I want to share how you can stay safe with your money while online.

Look At The Track Record:

If you are following a “money expert” on social media you need to ask one important question. “Has this person actually achieved what they are telling me to do?” If you can not find any evidence of that then you need to unfollow that person. People who follow me have plenty of proof that I paid off $50,000 of debt in two years and so they can be reassured that the tactics that I share will work because it has worked for others.

Too Good To Be True:

People on social media will try to make everything sound so easy. You do this one thing and get $60,000 in business credit in one day. Get you an LLC and you can buy a Range Rover and write it off on your taxes. Do this and you can get five credit cards by next week! The list goes on and on. All of it sounds too good to be true, because it is! If you decide to take the advice of some of these people you are going to end up in massive amounts of debt or worse, in prison.

What Is The Whole Story:

Many of the money gurus on social media will have you believing things that are not even true. Have you getting your hopes up for something that will never happen. The latest lie spreading on social media especially Instagram is that the government is defunding the IRS. What they are forgetting to tell you is that the republican bill about defunding the IRS will never see the light of day because it would have to go through a democrat controlled senate and white house. There are also other lies about that bill, but we don’t have enough time to talk about it.

Overall, just because someone has tens of thousands of followers doesn’t mean they know what they are talking about.

If you enjoyed this post please share it with others!
